Emilio
Emilio, Nessun Dorma, Lambrusco di Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Grasparossa, 2023
Lambrusco can be tricky sometimes because it’s made from a few different grapes, sometimes it’s made too sweet, sometimes it’s off the mark but when it hits, it really hits home. Lambrusco is also funny because it’s the name of the style of wine AND the place AND the grape. So– let’s investigate this one shall we? The Nessun Dorma Emilio is made in Lambrusco di Modena from mostly Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes. The Montanari family has 20 hectares but this wine is made from a very special selection of 6.5 hectares. Working organically, this Lambrusco is a little more precise bubbles than a Pet Nat but still has a casual appeal. It’s black cherry with plumb, cigar, fireside chats and nutmeg… but coupled with a little acidity and it’s dry. YUM!!
