Domaine La Calmette
Domaine Calmette, Trespotz, Cahors, Malbec/Merlot, 2022
Made by a super cool couple, growing grapes at high elevation vineyards in Cahors, surrounded by forest energy. It all adds up to the magic that is the wines from Domaine La Calmette. This is the Trespotz which translates to “three wells” but references the fact that this wine is a blend of grapes grown in three different types of soil: red clay, marl & Kimmeridgian. The wine is mostly Malbec with a touch of Merlot, its inky dark complexion gives way to a super balanced and luscious red wine that is chock full of fragrant and lip smacking fruit. LIP SMACKING aka YUM CITY!! Malbec from Cahors in France can be a little hot and downtrodden, or super chewy and beautiful but way too much. The high elevation of these vineyards help create amazing balance in this wine.
