Podere Casaccia

This is such a divine Sangiovese, baller level if you ask me. A lovely couple makes this wine in a beautiful part of Tuscany where they run a strict biodynamic farming program that gives their vines such an energetic jolt. Their native vines are in an area called Scandicci which is just outside of Florence. This wine has ancient greatness to it. When the couple were renovating their cellar they came across a bookplate from the 16th century that said Sine Felle, which is the name of one of their other wines. The origins of the phrase dates back to the first century, but loosely translates to “without bitterness”. This wine is called Priscus, which in Latin means Ancient, referencing their cellar and the history of the land that they make wine on. The wine is medium plus bodied with lovely rustic touches to it and light tannic feels. Beautiful and balanced, this is one of my favorite Italian red wines.
Serving temp: Cellar temp, around 65 degrees, store in a dark and cool spot!
Pairing: Spaghetti with meatballs; roasted chicken with sauteed spinach
