Vaira Aurelj
Vaira Aurelj, Fuori Zona, Piedmonte, Italy, Nebbiolo, 2021
This is a super special Nebbiolo but it's made just outside of the Barolo DOCG designation zone, so it can’t be labeled Barolo. But that doesn’t mean that Fuori Zona doesn’t have absolutely magic in the bottle. The production is tiny and the soils are limestone. The young man making this wine is humble and hard working, his dedication and love for the land and Nebbiolo are out of this world and it is evident in the wine itself. The name Fuori Zona means outside the zone, referencing the fact that while it's so close to being a Barolo, as far as the law is concerned it's not. The wine has all the trappings of a Barolo though and then some! Cherry notes with tobacco and some spice, lovely tannins, rose petals and a super long finish. This wine could benefit from being decanted!
Serving temp: Cellar temp around 65 degrees, store in a dark and cool spot!!
Pairings beautifully with Bolognese lasagne!!! With the bechamel sauce!!
