Domaine de Chevillard
Domaine de Chevillard, Savoie, France, Jacquere, 2021
Savoie is an alpine region in France, known for higher elevations and delicious and lovely wine. This wine is made in one of the most interesting areas of Savoie called Apremont. It’s made from a grape called Jacquere which is really cool and grows best at higher elevations. The wine is all lemon zest and apple pie and the grapes are hand harvested from 100 year old vines. So special! Older vines add depth and flavor to the fruit as they grow and results in a more complex wine. The wine is light and bright, such a fresh character. The grapes are pressed slowly through an antique press which is exactly what you might think of when you think about how wines were pressed in the olden days. Very much by hand and intentional. The wine doesn’t see any skin contact but is incredibly impressive. Some might say this wine dresses to impress– feeling suave in Savoie is literally its motto.
