Marcel Richaud, Bulbille, Cotes du Rhone, Grenache/Counoise/Syrah, 2023
Marcel Richaud is the real deal in the Rhone Valley. He took over the vines from his father at 17, but in a break from family tradition instead of selling the grapes he wanted to make his own wine. Despite his dad’s skepticism, Marcel went on to make the most magical wine in a specific area of the Rhone Valley called Cairanne. Not just any old area, but THE area of the valley with the best terroir that always produces the best Grenache and Syrah driven wines. This wine is called the Bulbille which means “young bud” in French. Marcel’s daughter and son have now taken over and his daughter had the idea for this wine to make something fresh even in a part of France that is classically more warm. Bulbille busts on to the scene with a slight carbonic fermentation and an eagerness to jump from the bottle into your glass. Like GULP ME vibes. It's pretty and on the lighter side, so you could chill this down. Super fun and vibrant.
Serving temp: You could put this into the chilled red zone but definitely would like to be cellar temp around 65 degrees.
Pairing: Pastrami on Rye; polenta with mushroom marsala
