Outward
Outward, Shell Creek Vineyard, Paso Robles, California, Chenin Blanc, 2024
Outward is an amazing wine making couple that are emerging as part of a collection of young winemakers who are making waves in and around San Luis Obispo. In my opinion its some of the most exciting wine that is coming out of California…this SLO coast movement is major. Their vineyard sites are across the SLO coast and Santa Ynez Valley with a focus on farming and minimal intervention in the cellar. Their style is a journey, an expression, as “adventure” as they call it into the unknown. To them, that unknown is how far you can push yourself outside of your comfort zone. I love that. This is Chenin Blanc that is grown in one specific vineyard in Paso Robles that has exceptional soil. Chenin Blanc can express itself in many different ways; it can be wild and dynamic or soft and tame. This wine strikes the perfect balance of both. Really seductive flavor coupled with great acidity. The wine almost feels like a dream, a surreal realization about how delicious and feminine white wine can be. It’s really awesome!!
