Punta Crena

As you head east along the coast of France you pass through Monaco and then enter into the divine state of mind that is Italy. As you continue along the coast you find yourself in the magical Liguria. What's so amazing about Liguria is that it's a steeply terraced wine growing region that sweeps up from the ocean. Vermentino is an incredible white wine grape that grows pretty much exclusively in Liguria. Punta Crena is always producing my favorite wines from Liguria, along with Vermentino, they also make a killer Pigato. Crisp and light white wine is coupled with subtle herbaceousness and a mineral backbone that comes with the higher elevation vineyards. What's so cool about Liguria is its home to the inception of some of my favorite Italian dishes: pesto and focaccia. The Ruffino family does it year after year, taking their 1200 meter elevation wines and making some of the slickest white wine around.
Serving temp: Fridge cold!
Pairing: Obviously pesto or focaccia, but would also be lovely with some poached white fish.
